D.C.'s million-dollar blizzard

Washington, D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier mentioned something interesting this morning. Asked how many tickets were issued during the city's recent snowstorms to cars parked on snow emergency routes, she said "about 4,000."

According to my trusty hand calculator (for younger readers who might not know, that is an antique device that was once "the latest thing" in high-tech gadgetry), at $250 each, those 4,000 tickets thus generated $1 million in revenue for the D.C. government's coffers.

Oh geez, what's next? A cloud-seeding program to make it snow more often in the nation's capital? You can listen to the complete interview with Lanier on WTOP's web site.
