October is Domestic Violence Awareness month, and the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office will be joined by domestic violence advocates and community partners to kick off an awareness campaign today at the Hall of Justice.

District Attorney George Gascón, along with Beverly Upton of the Domestic Violence Consortium, Ming Quan Chang of Cameron House, Lindsay Sweetnam of La Casa de las Madres and members of Domestic Violence Advocates, will gather at 10:30 a.m. on the third floor of the Hall of Justice to talk about a campaign called “Love Shouldn’t Hurt,” said District Attorney's Office spokeswoman Stephanie Ong Stillman.

The campaign involves ads in Muni vehicles aiming to bring attention to the services available to victims of domestic violence through the District Attorney’s Office, Stillman said.

“Victims [of domestic violence] are often afraid of coming forward,” Gascón said. “These ads [will be] a reminder that abuse is not part of a loving relationship.”
