Daly dumps ‘zero tolerance’ firefighter measure

Supervisor Chris Daly has given up on his charter amendment he introduced for the June ballot that would create a “zero tolerance for firefighters drinking on duty.”

Daly and Supervisors David Campos and Eric Mar held a Rules Committee hearing on the proposed measure Thursday and Daly realized that Campos and Mar would not support it and it would not make it out of committee. Daly decided to table it, meaning it is not going on the June ballot. It takes six votes by the full board to make it on to the ballot.

The measure was blasted by the firefighters union and fire chief Joanne Hayes-White who said the current alcohol policy in place is working.
