Daily Outrage: Space station laptops infected with “worm”

WHO: NASA

WHAT: The U.S. space agency has reportedly discovered a computer virus infecting laptops on the international space station, a “worm” designed to capture passwords.

WHY IT HAPPENED: The virus spreads via USB flash drives, but how an infected drive was allowed on to a space station — or why the computers were set to “auto-run” programs on such drives — remains unanswered.

WHY IT’S A BAD IDEA: The safety of the astronauts in that space station ultimately depends on computers.
