Daily outrage: Semi-pro football player charged in brutal attack on referee 

WHO: Leon Woods, 23

WHAT: The semi-pro football player has been charged with slamming his helmet into the face of a referee at the end of a raucous game in Rochester, N.Y. Referee Pete McCabe needed surgery for his broken nose, jaw and other bones in his face.

WITNESS REPORTS: Eyewitnesses said McCabe was attacked at a Rochester park by a player wearing Woods’ number, after two other players from the same team were ejected after a fight. Woods’ team, the Western New York Cougars, lost the game.

WHAT’S BEING DONE: Woods was arrested late Tuesday, charged with first-degree assault and jailed on $10,000 bail.
