Daily Outrage: Russian drunken supermarket slaughterer imprisoned for life

WHO: Denis Yevsyukov

WHAT: A former Moscow district police chief has been sentenced to life imprisonment for killing two people and wounding seven others during a shooting rampage in a supermarket because he argued with his wife at his 32nd birthday party last April. Yevsyukov walked drunkenly into the supermarket in his police uniform and began shooting at random. The whole massacre was recorded on surveillance video. He also killed the taxi driver who drove him to the store.

WHAT’S BEING DONE: Nationwide outrage over the senseless slaughter triggered a long overdue cleanup of Russia’s notoriously corrupt and brutal national police force. President Dmitry Medvedev this week fired 16 police chiefs and two deputy nterior ministers as he promised the start of far-reaching reforms.
