Daily Outrage: NYPD inspector quietly transferred while under investigation

WHO: NYPD Deputy Inspector Steven Mauriello, who led Brooklyn’s 81st Precinct and is currently under investigation for allegedly faking crime statistics, was quietly shipped off to the Bronx transit division during the Fourth of July weekend.

WHY: The Police Department probe of Mauriello was launched after a whistle-blowing cop named Adrian Schoolcraft reported his suspicions that crime numbers were being made up to make the 81st Precinct look better.

WHY IT’S OUTRAGEOUS: A high-ranking police source anonymously told the media that the police commissioner deliberately waited until the holiday weekend to try to transfer Mauriello without raising attention. The NYPD’s top spokesman denied it, claiming the switch merely reflected departmental needs.
