Daily Outrage: More parents hooked on mobile messaging

WHAT: Five years of MIT research, including 300 interviews, point to an increasing smart-phone and laptop addiction by American parents as a troubling source of resentment and hurt feelings for their children.

HOW: “There’s something so engrossing” about these mobile online interactions that entices parents to “wall out the world,” said MIT Technology and Self project director Sherry Turkle.

WHY IT’S OUTRAGEOUS: “Over and over, kids raised the same three examples of feeling hurt and not wanting to show it when their mom or dad would be on their devices instead of paying attention to them,” Turkle said.
