Daily Outrage: Libya’s dictator declares holy war on country

WHAT: Libya’s unpredictable dictator, Moammar Gadhafi, has called for a holy war against traditionally neutral Switzerland, allegedly because a recent referendum banned construction of new mosque minarets. And Gadhafi urged Muslims to boycott Swiss products.

WHY: The de facto declaration of war was recognized as Gadhafi’s latest reprisal for the 2008 Geneva arrest and two-day detainment of his son Hannibal for allegedly beating servants. Gadhafi previously took Libya’s money out of Swiss banks, broke off diplomatic contacts, delayed oil shipments and banned European visitors.

WHAT’S BEING DONE: Switzerland has shown no signs of a heightened security alert. However, Gadhafi’s threat could not totally be dismissed in this period of Islamic-Western turmoil.
