Daily Outrage: Former GOP treasurer admits embezzling more than $840,000 

WHAT: Christopher J. Ward of Bethesda, Md., treasurer of the National Republican Congressional Committee from 2003 to 2007, pleaded guilty to embezzling more than $840,000 from several political committees, including more than $670,000 from the congressional committee.

HOW: In Washington, D.C., federal court papers, Ward admitted that he transferred  hundreds of thousands of dollars into his personal account from an account used for operating an annual fundraising dinner with then-President George W. Bush.

WHAT’S NEXT: Prosecutors and Ward’s defense lawyer have agreed to recommend a sentence of three years in prison, though the judge could impose a term of up to 10 years.
