Daily Outrage: 300 passengers confined for 4 hours in 100-degree Virgin Atlantic jet

WHAT: On a nightmare flight from London to Newark, N.J., storms over New York forced the Virgin Atlantic jet to divert to a smaller airport in Connecticut. There, the plane’s generators broke down, leaving some 300 passengers stranded on the tarmac for four hours without air conditioning in cabin temperatures reaching 100 degrees.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The pilots had exceeded their maximum allowed flight time and the plane had to stay grounded. Finally, the passengers were allowed into a terminal, where they had to wait for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to arrive to allow them to proceed.

WHY IT’S OUTRAGEOUS: There were babies on the dark and hot airliner. Passengers were yelling and screaming. One person was taken to a hospital, but airline officials claimed there was no evidence to connect this with the flight.
