A man was arrested on drug charges on Saturday with the aid of K-9 officer Ajax, according to the San Mateo Police Department.

Andrew Quintero, 41, of Redwood City, was arrested about 5:30 p.m. as he was exiting the Jaybird Books, an adult book store on the 500 block of E. Third Avenue in San Mateo, police said.

Officers discerned that Quintero may be under the influence of a controlled substance and took him into custody. A search of his vehicle by officers and Ajax discovered a duffel bag inside the car that allegedly contained more than five ounces of methamphetamine, paraphernalia for drug use and paraphernalia for drug sales, such as a scale and baggies.

Quintero was booked in County Jail on charges of being under the influence of drugs, drug possession for sale, possession of drug paraphernalia and committing a crime while out on bail for another infraction.

Ajax is one of two new K-9 officers working the police department and has been with the force since late last year. To read more about Ajax's first few months on the force, go here.
