Couple caught drunken driving with kids in car carted off to jail

A married San Carlos couple was slapped with jail time for drinking and driving with four young children in their minivan on the way home from a booze-fest at the beach last month.

James Lee, 54, and Wendy Lee, 43, pleaded no contest Wednesday to charges stemming from the Jan. 20 shocker in which a sheriff’s deputy found 14 empty beer cans, an empty bottle of rum, a driver who could barely stand up and four children between ages 2 and 8 in the pulled-over minivan.

The driver, James Lee, plead to felony child endangerment and misdemeanor drunk driving charges on the condition that he wouldn’t have to spend time in state prison. He was sentenced to six months in county jail and three years probation, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.

His wife, Wendy Lee, plead to felony child endangerment and was sentenced to 45 days in county jail and three years probation.
