County transit agency’s mitigation efforts near Foster City noticed

San Mateo County’s efforts to restore a wetlands habitat near Foster City have earned kudos from a state land consulting organization.

The San Mateo County Transportation Authority is in the midst of restoring 7.85 acres of wetlands on the San Francisco Bay as part of a tradeoff to alleviate impacts from a new auxiliary road built between Belmont and Redwood City.

The $5 million wetlands restoration project includes the construction of a 2,400-foot long tidal channel, new tidal supply pipes, and extensive irrigation and landscaping efforts.

For their work, the Authority has been recognized with a Merit Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies, a nonprofit organization.
