Countdown on to deadline for school applications

Families have until Friday to submit their applications to up to seven schools in the district and be considered on time in the first round of submissions.

Then everyone who applied should get an offer by March 12 and either respond  by March 26, submit an appeal or have applied in the second round — but those applicants will be considered late.

Round-one applicants can receive priority three ways: if they request a school that their older sibling is attending and will attend the following school year, if they are special education students in inclusion classes; and if they are leaving Newcomer programs and request placement in a language program.

This school board is aiming to make this the last year families use the student assignment process and have set up several public meetings to receive input on an alternative.

The school’s Web site has all the important deadlines, forms and a sheet with frequently asked questions for anyone unfamiliar with the enrollment process.
