Cost details of $477K wheelchair ramp released 

After the politicking has settled and the financial shock subsided, the bill for building a wheelchair ramp in the historic legislative chambers at City Hall is $477,732. The money is coming from borrowing using certificates of participation.

The breakdown is $49,000 in soft costs, such as historic and engineering consultants, and $427,908 in construction costs.

Labor accounts for $201,678, which includes $119,279 for a carpenter supervisor and $47,892 for an electrician. Materials amount to $74,200, which includes electrical and paint and a $49,000 handrail.

Aspects of the approved design: 1) President’s podium lowered three steps, 12 inches above floor level. 2) Clerk’s podium lowered to floor level, moved 14 inches toward the center of the room to provide access space between the clerk’s desk and the podium 3) Short ramp built to the president’s podium.
