A man in his mid-30s was injured Monday afternoon while working on the Oakland touchdown section of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, Caltrans spokesman Bart Ney said Tuesday.

The man, working as a pile driver for MCM Construction Inc. out of North Highlands California, was caught between a pile-driving hammer and a pile just after 4 p.m., Ney said.

The construction team was moving equipment around the area when the accident occurred, Ney said.

The man was taken to San Francisco General Hospital in stable condition Monday night, Ney said. He did not have any broken bones, but reported a hip injury, according to Ney.

Work on the Oakland touchdown section of the Bay Bridge began Aug. 22, Ney said. No other injuries have been reported since work began, he said.
