Community courts moving forward in Bayview, Mission districts

District Attorney George Gascón is pushing ahead with a plan for volunteer staffed community courts, and he’s looking at the Bayview and Mission districts as the Petri dishes for his grand experiment.

The plan is to assign prosecutors to neighborhood meeting places, possibly even police stations, to expedite cases that can be resolved quickly through mediation. The goal is to reduce the number of misdemeanors and minor infractions that are clogging the wheels of justice.

The first meeting to discuss the court takes place Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Southeast Community Facility at 1800 Oakdale Ave. The second meeting is scheduled for April 13 at the Centro Latino de San Francisco, located at 1656 15th St.
