Commission deliberates on seismic upgrades and light bulbs

The Building Inspection Commission meets Wednesday morning to talk about Mayor Gavin Newsom’s proposed legislation that would establish voluntary program to encourage property owners to upgrade their buildings vulnerable to earthquakes. And it also scheduled to vote on legislation introduced by Supervisor Bevan Dufty about light bulbs.

Newsom’s voluntary program is not supposed to have much of an impact, according to a recent city report.

Now he is talking about making the upgrades mandatory.

Dufty’s legislation is about energy efficiency.

Both pieces of legislation would have to be approved by the Board of Supervisors to become law.
