Coast Guard still looking for swimmer off shore of Pacifica

The U.S. Coast Guard is still searching for a man who went swimming with two other people near the Pacifica Pier today but never returned to shore.

Witnesses reported the incident shortly before 2:30 p.m. about 500 yards south of the pier, Coast Guard Lt. j.g. Jeremy Pichette said.

Three men reportedly entered the water to go swimming, and one never returned. The Coast Guard initially reported four men had gone swimming, Pichette said.

The Coast Guard has not spoken with the two men who did return to shore, according to Pichette.

A Coast Guard helicopter and boat have been launched to search for the missing swimmer, he said.
