Coast guard: No conflict with S.F.

The U.S. Coast Guard today released a statement denying any conflict with the San Francisco Fire Department or Mayor Gavin Newsom regarding its response to the Nov. 7 oil spill in the bay.

"There is no dispute between the Coast Guard and Mayor Newsom or city of San Francisco Fire Department officials about the fact that the city offered the services of their fire boat in the early stages of this response and we did not take advantage of that offer," said Coast Guard Adm. Craig Bone in a prepared statement.

"We are investigating exactly what happened and what communications took place during this response jointly with the city of San Francisco and others to ensure a more effective reaction to any future incident."
