For the first time in its short history, the Clipper Card has been used by over a half-million passengers.

An average of 505,000 daily boardings were recorded during the week of Aug. 26, establishing a new high-water mark for the regional transit fare. According to the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, which manages the card, that marks an eight-fold increase since June 2010.

Currently, seven local transit systems employ the transit fare, led by Muni, which reported an average of 304,000 daily boardings with passengers using Clipper card. BART reported 130,000 daily boardings, and AC Transit notched 40,000 boardings.
