Climate bill: Never mind

Harry Reid has bad news for Obama            (ap photo)

That whole "tripartisan" climate bill that Sens. John Kerry, Lindsey Graham and Joe Lieberman spent six months working on? Yeah, that's the one. Dunzo, says the AP:

Voicing regrets, Sen. John Kerry said Saturday he is postponing the much anticipated unveiling of comprehensive energy and climate change legislation scheduled for Monday. The Massachusetts Democrat made his announcement after a key partner in drafting the bill, Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, threatened to withhold support if Senate Democratic leaders push ahead first with an immigration bill.

Graham called plans by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to bring up immigration reform, "a cynical political ploy."

Saints preserve us! In the Senate? Democrats want to push immigration as a tasty election-year sweetener for Hispanic voters. Republicans want immigration to stay far, far away. Obama promised to tackle reform during his first year in office -- a deadline he rather pointedly missed.

In any case, the whole collapse of the climate bill has, if you will forgive, a whiff of the inevitable about it.
