City to search for Badiner’s replacement

The City’s planning department will begin searching early this month for a new zoning administrator to replace longtime official Larry Badiner, who was entangled in a scandal regarding racy emails.

Planning Director John Rahaim announced Thursday that department official Scott Sanchez will take over as acting zoning administrator on June 7.

The position serves as Rahaim’s second-in-charge and advises commissioners and colleagues on the complex planning and zoning codes that govern building in San Francisco.

“About that same time, I will be posting for the position of zoning administrator,” Rahaim told Planning Commissioners on Thursday.

Sanchez is presently on vacation, and the role will be filled until then by official Kelly Amdur.

Badiner was implicated in a scandal when he reportedly received internal emails with pictures that contained nudity.

Rahaim declined to say whether Badiner resigned or had his employment terminated. Nor would he say whether Badiner is appealing any related decisions by city officials.

An appeal filed by Badiner could explain why Rahaim is not immediately starting to search for a replacement.

“I can only tell you that he is no longer with The City,” Rahaim said Monday.
