City party Friday for Barry Bonds

Giants fans will be able to celebrate Barry Bonds’ historic home-run achievement Friday, August 24 when The City hosts a free, open-to-the-public lunchtime event at Justin Herman Plaza on Friday, Mayor Gavin Newsom’s office announced today.

On August 7, Bonds broke Aaron’s home-run record when he hit his 756th ball into the center-field bleachers.

The City is billing next week’s tribute as a family-oriented event that will include Barry Bond and his family, Bond’s former and current teammates, Giants executives and broadcasters, "various celebrities."

Renel-Brooks Moon, the Giants public address announcer will emcee the celebration, which will start at noon.
