City officials to shine spotlight on human trafficking

An all-star cast of city leaders, including Mayor Gavin Newsom and District Attorney Kamala Harris, is expected to come out Monday for the beginning of a month-long awareness campaign against human trafficking. Supervisor Carmen Chu and Board President David Chiu have already introduced a resolution supporting the campaign, and Police Chief George Gascon is working to crackdown on prostitution in The City, which is often how the victims of human trafficking work off a debt to their handlers. Officials on Monday are also expected to announce forthcoming efforts to strengthen state laws in the fight against human trafficking.
