City Hall News: Blackout leaves city residents in the dark 

A Pacific Gas and Electric blackout left an estimated 6,700 residences and businesses without power Tuesday evening in the Marina, Cow Hollow and Russian Hill. The outage, reported at 2:50 p.m., was caused by an underground cable failure along California and Franklin streets, according to PG&E spokeswoman Darlene Chu. Power was restored at 5 p.m.

Graffiti panel to hold meeting Saturday

The Department of Public Works Graffiti Advisory Board will host a special meeting from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20 at Golden Gate Recycling and Disposal, 900 Seventh St. The "Anti-Graffiti Super Huddle" is open to the public and will address the "war" against graffiti, from enforcement efforts to neighborhood prospective. CCSF trustees to be sworn in Thursday

City College of San Francisco’s recently elected board of trustees will be sworn in at 5 p.m. Thursday in the auditorium of the Hiram W. Johnson State Building, 455 Golden Gate Ave. Newly appointed member John Rizzo will join Dr. Anita Grier and Lawrence Wong.

Police commission

Police Department budget issues to be discussed

The San Francisco Police Commission will hold preliminary discussions tonight on the department’s 2007-08 budget at the regularly scheduled meeting. The new fiscal year begins July 1, and the department has struggled in recent years with overtime due to staffing shortages.
