City Hall: City Attorney opens Bayview office

District Attorney Kamala Harris on Monday opened an office in the Bayview neighborhood — a first for a district attorney.

The office, at 1319 Evans St., will offer crisis intervention, emergency assistance and long-term counseling support to victims and witnesses of violent crime. The assistance will be available in multiple languages.

The office will be open from noon to 6 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

COMMUNITY

Red Cross to prepare faith-based organizations

The local chapter of the American Red Cross will convene dozens of faith-based organizations from around the Bay Area today in an effort to prepare the groups, which are often on the front lines when it comes to providing services, for major natural disasters.

The program is part of the chapter’s Prepare Bay Area initiative, which aims to prepare at least 1 million residents for a natural disaster.

The groups will meet at 11:15 a.m. today at the San Francisco Marriot, 55 Fourth St.

BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

Committee to vote on police disciplining measure

A Board of Supervisors committee will vote Friday on a charter amendment that would grant more power to the police chief when it comes to disciplining officers.

Supervisor Sean Elsbernd introduced the charter amendment that would increase the numbers of days the police chief can suspend officers from 10 days to 45 days. If approved by the full Board of Supervisors, the charter amendment would appear on the November ballot.

The Board of Supervisors Rules Committee meets to vote on the charter amendment on Friday, at 1 p.m., at City Hall, Room 263.
