Cibo Matto is back

The wacky new official press photo pretty much says it all — two unusually attired Japanese girls in the back of a taxi, both sporting Thor-elaborate gold helmets for some unknown, but no doubt wonderful, reason.

Yes, it’s true — that wild alterna-pop duo of Cibo Matto is back!

Miho Hatori and Yuka C. Honda have finally reunited, and are hard at work composing new songs. The full album may not see release until 2012, but — thanks to the instant gratification digital age — you can hear the works in progress at their constantly updated website.

Naturally, the recent Japanese earthquake/tsunami disaster brought the team back out in force, as they performed several benefit concerts for the relief cause. But they’ve decided to keep the momentum going, via a two-part American tour.

The first part hits the West Coast, the second, the East Coast and Midwest.

The best news of all?

They’ll be previewing all this new material when the “Yeah Basically Cibo Matto” jaunt alights in San Francisco on June 25 at Bimbo’s

Another reason to be cheerful in this truly great year in modern music!
