Chris Daly says push for Ed Lee mayoral run scripted from day one

Mayor Ed Lee has spent a lot of time, perhaps too much, answering the question, will he run for mayor? Ever since being appointed interim mayor by the Board of Supervisors, the question was asked of him.

And while Lee has denied he would run, he suddenly has changed his response to the question by not rejecting a run, but saying he is considering one. So now it increasingly sounds like he will run.

But for some, this has been the clear political script since day one. Since the day Lee went into Mayor’s Office those in the political world have said it would go like this: He would deny a run for mayor, then there would be an effort to draft him for mayor and then he would run for mayor. In other words, this was a cleverly devised acting job.

Former Supervisor Chris Daly is one of those people. On his Facebook page, Daly commented Tuesday on the speculation of a Lee run: “Actually, he’s been running the whole time. How stupid do the Lee people think we are?”

Lee has until Aug. 12 to file to run for mayor.
