CHP investigating possible suicide on 101-S

The California Highway Patrol is investigating a possible suicide after someone fell onto southbound U.S. Highway 101 from the state Highway 92 overpass in San Mateo on Wednesday morning.

A body was reported in the left lanes of southbound Highway 101 at 10:37 a.m., CHP Officer Peter Van Eckhardt said.

The San Mateo County coroner's office was called out to the scene a short time later. Authorities do not know if the victim accidentally fell from the overpass or if it was a suicide, Van Eckhardt said.

The incident initially prompted the CHP to close the two left lanes of southbound Highway 101. As of 11:30 a.m., only the far left lane remained closed.
