CHP closes one lane inside Bay Bridge tunnel due to loose cable

The far right lane of the Bay Bridge's lower deck has been shut down this morning due to a loose cable or wire obstructing traffic, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

CHP Officer Trent Cross said a motorist reported at about 6 a.m. that a live wire was hanging down onto eastbound lanes inside the tunnel.

The CHP closed the far right lane to "isolate the hazard," Cross said.

CHP Officer John Short said it was later determined that the wire was a cable. Cross was not immediately able to confirm that but said Caltrans had arrived to begin repairs.

No injuries were reported.
