Chiu calls for closed-door labor talks

Board of Supervisor President David Chiu introduced a motion Tuesday that would have the board meet in a closed session – meaning the discussion is not open to the public -- for a “briefing on labor issues between the board and the department of human resources and the mayor’s office.”

The motion comes as “the Department of Human Resources is in the process of starting to negotiate about 15 labor agreements this spring as well as to enter into required negotiations regarding layoffs as well discussions to reopen some labor agreement that we will need in light of our city’s fiscal challenges. I m going to be hearing “

The City is facing a budget deficit in excess of $500 million for the fiscal year beginning July 1.
