Chit-chat to stash gat

This guy was not interested in idle chatter.

Officers arrested a man at 1400 McKinnon St. on Thursday who was trying to hide a gun from housing security guards, police said.

The guards saw a group of men hanging around the area and went over to investigate, police said. Upon arrival, most members of the group scattered, but one came back and engaged the guards “in some meaningless chit chat,” police said.

Throughout the exchange the suspect was “rooted in one spot in front of some bushes,” until he got a telephone call, police said. After the suspect stepped away for privacy the guards realized why he was so talkative: He was trying to conceal a loaded .380 semiautomatic handgun stashed in the bushes.

The suspect had an outstanding warrant and was arrested by police and carted off to jail.
