Chicago: We want Rahm

Quickie poll by the We Ask America folks on the Chicago mayor race shows Rahm Emanuel at 30%, Sheriff Tom Dart at 14%, Congressmen Jesse Jackson Jr. and Luis Gutierrez each at 13%.

Emanuel gets 35% from blacks, 30% from whites, 22% from Hispanics and 21% from Asians—quite a multicultural coalition. Gutierrez gets 51% from Hispanics and under 10% from others; my guess is that if he weren’t on the list, Emanuel would get a lot of these votes.

Jackson gets only 21% from blacks, running well behind Emanuel: the days of black versus white politics are evidently long gone in Chicago.

The We Ask America folks downplay the significance of their poll: “Again, the list of possible candidates was largely built on speculation by political pundits and other Really Smart People, so keep that in mind. And remember . . . THIS IS FOR FUN.”

Fun or not, this is very good news for Emanuel if indeed he wants to be mayor of Chicago.
