Central Subway contract up for approval at Supes committee

A $40 million contract to carry out the final design plans for The City’s Central Subway project could be approved today at the Board of Supervisors’ Budget and Finance Committee meeting.

Under the terms of the contract, the Central Subway Design Group, a joint venture, would design and plan the three underground tunnels that are part of the $1.6 billion project, which will one day carry passengers from the SoMa District to Chinatown.

Earlier this month, Mayor Gavin Newsom and other officials celebrated the groundbreaking of the project, although The City still needs to carry out several engineering tasks before securing about $1 billion in pledged federal funding.
