Celebrating 100 years of women's suffrage in California 

League of Women Voters Gala: Community leaders and five-decade members of the League of Women Voters were honored Thursday at “Centennial Celebration of Women’s Suffrage in California” at the City Club in San Francisco. Honorees included “pioneers” Susan Desmond-Hellmann, Aileen Hernandez, Margaret Sullivan, Dede Wilsey and Brenda Wright; “rising stars” Nicole Baran, London Breed, Hala K. Hijazi and Jennifer Siebel Newsom, and “pioneers in memoriam” Abigail Brown Conwell and Clara Stephens.

Hearts abound for SF General 

‘Heroes & Hearts’ luncheon: On Thursday in Union Square, San Francisco General Hospital Foundation recognized Judge Mary Morgan, Dewey Rosetti, Dr. Shannon Thyne and John Weidinger for their community service. Participants in the 2011 “Hearts in San Francisco” public art series also were introduced at the gathering, a fundraiser for programs at San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center.

‘Channeling Love’ for cancer center

Valentine’s Day Ball: On Feb. 5 at their Atherton residence, philanthropists Jillian Manus and Alan Salzman hosted their sixth annual black-tie gala, a benefit for the Stanford Cancer Center. With the theme “Channeling Love,” each room in the home depicted a nostalgic take on iconic TV shows, from “The Addams Family” to “The Twilight Zone.”
