Cause of overnight power outage still unknown

Power has been restored to more than 2,000 PG&E customers in San Francisco affected by an outage early Tuesday morning, a utility spokesman said.

The outage began shortly after 1 a.m., spokesman Joe Molica said.

By 3:50 a.m., the lights were back on for all of the 2,150 affected customers, he said. Many households likely slept right through the outage and woke up to blinking alarm clocks.

The problem occurred along a cable that snakes through several neighborhoods, but crews are still not sure what caused it, Molica said.

Customers experienced scattered outages along Market Street between Gough and 10th streets, then south along 10th Street to about Harrison Street, he said.
