Casinos offer green for St. Patrick’s Day

Several Northern California casinos are offering green to customers this St. Patrick’s Day.

“We do get a lot of Irish people” who turn out for the annual St. Patty’s Pot O’ Gold promotion at River Rock Casino, said Chris Wright, marketing director.

This year, with extensive casino renovations complete, River Rock is doing more than it has in the past.

The top prize drawing that day is an Irish vacation valued at $6,000, plus $1,500 in spending money. That drawing will be at 10 p.m. Other cash-prize drawings will be hourly from 7 to 9 p.m., and again at 11 p.m.

To enter, customers must join the River Rock players club. As players use their club card in a slot machine or at a table game, they qualify for entries into the drawings.

“It’s a fun day,” Wright said, “and we’ve got a really good band.”

The Suns and Shadows Trio, a Celtic band, will play in the Center Stage Bar from 7 to 11 p.m.

Jackson Rancheria in the Gold Country is offering a Leapin’ Lucky Bucks promotion.

Players must use their club card to earn entries between 8 a.m. and midnight. Casino hosts dressed as leprechauns will conduct random hot-seat drawings for $500 cash, and everyone at the bank or table gets a shamrock pin.

At Red Hawk Casino, club members can win $1,000 every half-hour, part of a $10,000 Pot of Gold promotion from 5:30 to 10 p.m.

Also at Red Hawk in March, players receive a free entry every day they play with their club card and an additional entry for every 250 points earned. The entries must be activated by playing slots or table games March 17.

River Rock’s renovations that began last year are complete, Wright said, and the casino is planning to celebrate those changes probably in May.

Aside from the new poker room and the new Fortune Cafe, there are all new floors, the Oak Bar has been expanded and there’s new lighting for the stage.

“We’ve got all new carpet, chairs and paint,” Wright said. “There are 25 flat-screen TVs ... this whole casino is totally redone. It’s really bright in there. Before, the walls were dark — now they’re a lighter, tan color and they’ve really brightened up the facility.”
