Cap proposed for city overtime

Legislation that would cap overtime for certain employees of The City was introduced to the Board of Supervisors by Mayor Gavin Newsom on Tuesday.

The bill, cosponsored by Supervisor Jake McGoldrick, was introduced as The City faces a $338 million projected budget deficit next fiscal year.

Overtime for police, fire and other emergency and critical service employees would remain uncapped, while other city employees would not be allowed to rack up overtime hours that exceed 16 percent of regularly scheduled work hours for that fiscal year.
