Caltrain to hold community forums to discuss fare increases, service reductions

Caltrain will hold a series of community meetings on Thursday to discuss service reductions and fare increases that could be coming soon to the rail line.

Faced with a $2.3 million budget deficit, the agency is considering increasing fares by 25 cents, eliminating weekend service, and reducing the number of weekday trains.

To get public feedback and input on the changes, Caltrain has scheduled four separate meetings on Thursday. For San Francisco residents, the agency will hold a hearing at the SoMa Caltrain Station at 700 4th Street. The meeting will last from 6 to 7 p.m. In San Mateo County, Caltrain will hold a community hearing at the agency’s headquarters in San Carlos. That forum is also scheduled from 6 to 7 p.m. There are two more meetings scheduled to take place in San Jose and Gilroy on Thursday, as well.
