Cal’s Franklin earns five Golden Goggle nominations 

Olympic and world champion Missy Franklin is among the leading nominees for USA Swimming’s Golden Goggle awards.

Franklin, a freshman at Cal, is up for five awards, including Female Athlete of the Year. The 10th annual awards will be given out Nov. 24 in Los Angeles.

Fan voting, which counts for a percentage of the final vote totals, began online Tuesday.

Stanford soccer nabs honors: Both a Stanford men’s and women’s soccer player took home a Pac-12 Conference honor after wins last week. On the men’s side, freshman forward Jordan Morris was named Pac-12 Player of the Week for his standout performance Friday night at UC Santa Barbara. Morris scored the first two goals of his collegiate career against Santa Barbara. On the women’s side, Stanford freshman goalie Jane Campbell was named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week for her performance in the Cardinal’s 2-0 conference-opening victory at Colorado on Saturday. She earned her second shutout and improved to 6-0-0 since taking over for senior All-America Emily Oliver, who retired for medical reasons.

The USF women’s golf team shot a final-round 307 to finish seventh in the rain-shortened the Rose City Collegiate tournament, which was held near Portland. USF sophomore Emelie Lundstrom finished ninth with a 5-over 149. ... For the third week in a row, the S.F. State’s men’s cross country team is ranked in the top ten in the United States Track/Field Cross Country Coaches Association West Region Rankings at No. 10.
