California National Guard audit reveals alleged fraud

California National Guard officials received a tongue-lashing from state senators about recent financial misbehavior. Audits show evidence of fraud involving up to $100 million in student-loan repayments and cash bonuses dispensed as recruitment incentives. Also reported were allegations of improper double- and triple-dipping for a single workday by Guard pilots. Lawmakers voiced concern that such problems might tarnish selfless volunteers in wartime.
