Cal women hold off Washington State 

BERKELEY — Mikayla Cowling scored 15 points and Brittany Boyd hit two free throws with 12 seconds left and California held off Washington State 57-54 on Monday night.

Gabby Green missed the front end of a one-and-one with 14 seconds left, but Cal grabbed the offensive rebound and Boyd was fouled. Boyd's two free throws gave Cal a three-point lead. Lia Galdeira missed a 3-pointer early in the shot clock on Washington State's next possession, Boyd missed two free throws with four seconds left, and Galdeira's half-court heave was off the mark at the buzzer.

Courtney Range scored 11 for California (16-5, 8-2 Pac-12) and Boyd had nine points, nine rebounds and six assists.

Galdeira led Washington State (13-8, 4-6) with 29 points and Dawnyelle Awa added 10. Galdeira was 13 of 28 from the field, including 3 of 13 from 3-point range.
