Cal pair are All-Americans

Two Cal men's soccer players — senior midfielder Andrew Jacobson and sophomore goalkeeper Stefan Frei — have been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association/adidas All-America first team.

"We are very proud of both Andrew and Stefan's accomplishments this year," Golden Bears coach Kevin Grimes said in a statement released by the school. "Have two players earn All-America honors in the same season is a great testament to the program and their teammates."

Jacobson, a Palo Alto native who attended Gunn High School, was named the Pac-10 Conference Player of the Year this season in leading Cal to its seconds straight conference championship. He tied for the team lead in shots (44), had 11 points (four goals, three assists) and had 15 shots on goal.

Frei, a native of Widnau, Switzerland, who was also a first-team All-Pac-10 selection, had nine shutouts while playing every minute for the Bears this season. He led the Pac-10 in save percentage (.850), saves (91), saves per match (4.55), shutouts and goals-against average (0.68).
