Cal forward suspended indefinitely

When No. 8 Cal takes on No. 9 Louisville in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday, it will be forced to do so without one of its starting forwards.

Coach Mike Montgomery suspended 6-foot-7 sophomore Omondi Amoke indefinitely for violating team rules Wednesday, causing the already size-deprived Bears to lose one of their top big men. No specifics of the suspension were given.

Amoke started 14 games for the Bears this season, and averaged 4.8 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.

Cal will likely either shift guard Jorge Gutierrez into the starting lineup or could possibly turn to 6-foot-7 Markhuri Sanders-
Frison.

The Bears play Louisville on Friday at 6:50 p.m. in Jacksonville, Fla.
