Bye, bye paper — to some degree anyway

City departments will no longer have to print out documents of more than 10 pages after the Board of Supervisors approved legislation that allows document distribution requirements to be satisfied by distributing an electronic form of the documents instead.

The law is meant to reduce government’s usage of paper and also reduce cost. By how much, remains unknown.

Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi, who introduced the legislation, said the law makes it “so it’s not always the reflex that we are giving so much paper out.”
