Busy Muni stop in SoMa permanently relocates Saturday

One of Muni’s busiest bus stops will be permanently relocated Saturday as part of an effort to improve service on Third Street.

The shelter, currently located on the east side of Third Street between Market and Mission streets, is slated to move 150 feet away. Instead of being situated on Third Street at the southeast corner of Stevenson Street, the shelter will move to the northeast corner of the intersection with Mission Street.

The stop, which serves Muni’s 8X, 8AX and 8BX-Bayshore lines, as well as the 30-Stockton and 45-Union buses, is the scene for approximately 5,000 passenger boardings a day.

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, which operates Muni, said the relocation will allow the agency to create an extra-wide lane on Third Street, thus increasing mobility for transit.
