Say goodbye to the "cattle call." The Dallas-based airline says it is changing to its longtime open-seating policy to assign a peckingorder to travelers waiting to board their Boeing 737 jets. Starting in early November, customers of Southwest Airlines Co. (LUV) will be assigned a letter-number combination on their boarding passes, which will reserve their spot in their boarding group.

DUPONT AND KEVLAR

DuPont (DD) will invest $500 million to increase production of Kevlar, best known for its use in military body armor, the company said Wednesday. When complete in 2010, the expansion will increase capacity by more than 25 percent. The move represents the largest Kevlar expansion since the aramid fiber was introduced in 1965, the company said.
