Business briefs: India and Japan 

Japan and India set a target Wednesday to more than double bilateral trade to $20 billion in the next three years, and their leaders agreed to work toward an early conclusion of a free-trade agreement. Japan’s economic engagement with India lags that of other major powers, which have been more successful in working with India, where the economy is growing close to 9 percent a year.

CASH FOR GAS

Americans love credit cards. But at more gas stations, it pays to be part of the cash crowd. To dodge the rising fees that credit card companies tack on to transactions, both no-name and big-brand stations are charging drivers less when they use cash. In California, the savings range from 3 cents to 15 cents a gallon. In 2006, motorists paid an average of 4.2 cents a gallon more because of fees.
